The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.

I want to share my life with you as a mom and boutique boss. It is busy, it is messy and it is so much fun teaching my children to reach for their dreams.

I have always had a strong work ethic. Since I was 15 I have had a job or two or three. At one point after I got married I was working three jobs and going to graduate school. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, why are you doing it? I want my children to grow up with that same work ethic, provide amazing customer service and expect to not have anything handed to them.

While many parents don't get the opportunity to show their children what they do, I get to share with my children every single day. This past weekend we had our first drop in and shop of the year. While my son was at school, my girls were helping me "organize". They named our mannequin Elsa and decided she needed a steam and a fashionable hat. They spent almost 30 minutes "fixing" her dress and "steaming" her. (Don't worry it wasn't plugged in and there was no water.) But they were happy and busy being mini chic bosses.

I believe it is important for them to participate as much as they can in our business. My hope is that one day they have the privilege of working alongside us and eventually taking over Chic Avenue Boutique.

I want to encourage all those dreamers and entrepreneurs out there who have small children at home.

Go For It! You Got This!  It will be hard, but it will be worth it!

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis
Have you ever read a book and just knew it was speaking directly to you? Well... Girl, Stop Apologizing was this book. I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy from the publisher and be able to participate in her launch team.
After reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis last Summer, I continued to explore Rachel and her mission. She is an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, blogger, and mom. She has done a lot in her career while raising a family and in seeing her achieve goals, I know it is possible to keep pushing myself to be at the level I want to be at with Chic Avenue Boutique. We are almost 4 years in and we have found our Tribe.

My favorite quote from Girl, Stop Apologizing is "The goal isn't to have a balanced life, the goal is to have a centered life." Now stop and think about that.
I always see questions posted on social media on how to do it all. How do you work full time? How do you run your home when…

Welcome to Mama Chic and her interns

Welcome to the Mama Chic and her interns blog. This blog will give a behind the scenes look into the world of being a #boutiqueboss while also being a #momboss. A little bit about me, Krista Vanderveren. I am co-owner of Chic Avenue Boutique with my sister Jillian. We started Chic Avenue in July of 2015. Chic Avenue launched the week I found out I was pregnant for the second time. Fast forward a few weeks and we were slowly growing out boutique. I found out I was expecting twins. Yes, twins! So not only did I have a new business and a newly two-year-old. I was going to be adding two more babies to our family. The last 3 1/2 years have been a whirlwind of boutique business, raising babies and building our empire. Through it all I have had amazing support from my husband Brad, my sister Jillian, our parents Scott & Pam and our entire Chic Community. Without all of you we would not be here today.

Through this blog, I plan to share the adventures of owning a small business owner and b…

Getting out the door with 2+ children -originally written for Twin Love Concierge

We all dream of those Pinterestinspired mornings of waking up with two+ little ones jumping on your perfectly white bedspread. You spend the morning with your partner and children making pancakes and sipping coffee while the kids play nicely together. And then you all just walk out of the house when it is time to leave for work, daycare and school.  Well…. If you are like our family, that is not the case.  My husband leaves for work before the Sun is up and personally, I am not a morning person so getting up at 5:30 when he does is out of the question. I wake up to an alarm at 6:45 and get myself ready. By this time my singleton has stumbled to my room because I am making noise. When I am ready, we head to the Twins room and get everyone ready.  Breakfast is always chaotic because someone is screaming that they are STARVING and they can’t wait another minute for their milk. Or you have one that decided it was a convenient time to use the bathroom, but needs assistance while you are mi…
